Akela Ahmed, Founder @shespeakswehear
Akeela Ahmed is an equalities campaigner specialising in youth and gender issues. She has over ten years experience of supporting vulnerable individuals with complex social and mental health difficulties, providing high intensity support services to young and homeless people from diverse backgrounds, including refugees, asylum seekers, ex-offenders and BAME groups.
She was Chief Executive of the Muslim Youth Helpline for three years, and has advised the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), the Faith Inquiry project run by the leading think-tank Demos, The Prince’s Trust Mosaic’s Ex-Offender Programme, the production team for the national primetime UK television drama Eastenders, as well as various government departments. Since 2012, she has been a Ministerially-appointed UK government advisor, sitting on the Cross Government Working Group on Anti-Muslim Hatred based at the UK Department for Communities and Local Government. Last year, she was appointed to the British government’s Office for the Children's Commissioner advisory panel on the Child Sex Abuse in the Family Environment Inquiry. Akeela is also the Muslim Family Specialist at the Christian Muslim Forum in London.
In 2014 Akeela founded 'She Speaks We Hear' an online platform bringing together women's voices, unaltered and unadulterated.
Akeela is a property development entrepreneur, and recently set up 'Seaside CIC' a social enterprise for homeless people with mental health difficulties. She holds an MSc in Mental Health Studies from the Institute of Psychiatry at Kings College London. A regular contributor to national and international media, Akeela has appeared on BBC News, BBC 5 Live, BBC Radio 4’s 'The Today' programme, BBC London, BBC Asian Network, Sky News, Channel 5 News, the Guardian, Telegraph, and the Independent, among others.

Victoria O-Collins, Senior Town Planner @LBTH
Victoria O-Collins has a MA Town Planning and is currently a Senior Planner at London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Prior to this she completed a Bsc in Economics and MA business Administration in Nigeria. She has worked as a planner at the Ministry of Agriculture in Nigeria for 10 years and came to England in 2003.Victoria is married with 3 children.
Lola Atkins, Founder and M.D of the EWAV Brand
Lola Atkins is an entrepreneur and the founder and Managing Director of the EWAV Brand which includes EWAV Works, a Media company, and EWAV a specialist Training and Consultancy agency. EWAV Works develops engaging opportunities and educational training programmes for young people using digital and new media platforms, such as animation, film production and motion images production. The organization was developed to provide a motivating and encouraging environment where young people can maximize their potential, talents and take hold of their destinies using motion graphic designs such as animation and motion images production.
Award-winning EWAV Works provides a range of activities for young people, young lone parents, unemployed, refugees and young offenders by providing educational training and work opportunities in media and motion graphic design. The company also produces short films, documentaries, and film, have worked with thousands of young people over the past five years, including partnerships with schools and young offender institutions. She is a strong advocate for community cohesion using education.
Lola has also recently launched a new branch to the EWAV umbrella in January 2017, which provides formulating sustainable business strategies and solutions through consulting, research, and cross-sector collaboration to pharmaceuticals, clinical research, and manufacturing sectors. She is also a mentor panellist for the Award-winning Twenty Ten club teen mentoring programme.
Lola is also a Scientist with over twelve years’ experience working within the NHS, and several global pharmaceutical companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, and Roche.
Lola graduated from Kings College, London with a Bachelor of Science (HONS) degree in Microbiology and Immunology, also has a MBA from Brunel Business School. She also has a Diploma LOCN in Video Production from the College of North East London.

Selina Bakkar is one of two sisters from London who launched Amaliah.com in January 2016. Their vision was to build a platform that represents Muslim Women across fashion, beauty and lifestyle.

Dr Madera Ruby, Researcher, Author and Coach
Dr Mahera Ruby completed her PhD in 2015, focusing on intergenerational learning in three-generation families whose origins are in Bangladesh. She has a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, a PGCE (in Secondary Science), and an MEd (Open).
Mahera is a mother who is passionate about living and sharing a vibrant love of faith and community with her husband, three boys and her community. She has spent the best part of her voluntary and professional life talking and listening to people from all walks of life. She has always been interested in helping people overcome challenges, expand their experiences and meet their true potential. Her interest in people and their stories led to a career as a researcher, a personal development coach and a parenting coach.
Mahera has worked for the past decade as a researcher at Goldsmiths, University of London, using an ethnographic approach in the homes, communities and classrooms of both monolingual and bilingual children in East London. She co-directed the ESRC-funded research project on 'Becoming literate through faith: language and literacy learning in the lives of new Londoners'. Mahera has worked on a few other research projects on developing bilingual pedagogies and has co-authored many publications highlighting her findings. During her time as a research fellow, Mahera co-authored her first book with Dr Charmian Kenner, ‘Interconnecting Worlds: Teacher partnerships for bilingual learning’, which has received many positive reviews.
Mahera is passionate about the community she lives in and is a community organiser. She is involved in many interfaith projects and activities. She is a member of the Board of Trustees at the East London Mosque complex and an executive member of Tower Hamlets Citizens. Mahera coaches professionals, young people, parents and individuals who are seeking to make change, personally develop, grow and maximize their strengths, reach their potential, and achieve results. She is keen to develop community leaders and vibrant community organisations.
